A Frog in a Cocoon
by Daria J.
age 12

"Ribbet, Ribbet, Ribbet, Ribbet, Ribbet," that's the sound of a caterpillar.   Here's how it started.  One day a cocoon fell out of a tree and a frog found it.  All of a sudden a caterpillar popped out of it and started to hop around and ribbet, and that's how it's been since this day. Ribbet, Ribbet. "You're not a frog, you're a caterpillar, OK?" "Ribbet, Ribbet." The frog jumped onto a lily pad. The caterpillar jumped and missed the lilypad and fell into the water. The frog jumped in after the caterpillar and pulled him onto the lilypad.  "How many times do I have to tell you? You aren't a frog, you're a caterpillar.   Now do you believe that caterpillar? You can't swim," the frog said unhappily. "Ribbet, why don't you prove that I'm not a frog?" said the caterpillar.  "OK, you don't have four legs." "So?" said the caterpillar, not satisfied.  "Also, you can't swim and you. . ." the caterpillar interrupted and said, "You have a point." The caterpillar was satisfied.  "But, then why were you by my cocoon?" asked the caterpillar, wondering.  "Because your cocoon fell out of the tree before you were a butterfly, and you followed me, and started to hop around and Ribbet, and ever since that day you've thought you were a frog," explained the frog.  That night the caterpillar made a cocoon.  When the frog woke up he saw the cocoon and waited.   A month later the cocoon started to crack and a butterfly popped out and said, "Ribbet, just kidding!" "Goodbye, frog," said the butterfly, and he flew away. Once in awhile, he came and visited the frog and they became best friends.
